16 Tips to Better Flower Bouquets

1. As a general rule, a bouquet should be about three times as tall as its vase.
2. Use blooms for both height and width.
3. Start creating the bouquet in your hand.
4. Give it a focal point—include three or five of the main flower type.
5. Add long foliage or branches for width and structure.
6. Keep turning the bouquet and add smaller complementary flowers.
7. Place in the vase and fill in as needed.
8. Keep a variety of vases on hand to match the mood of your mix.
9. Go beyond flowers and complement blooms with foliage, stems, berries and buds that add interest with texture and color.
10. Trim flowers early in the morning so they last longer.
11. Angle the cut so your flowers can soak up more water.
12. Forget foliage: Below the water line, trim off any leaves from the stems only.
13. Change the water. If you have a hard time remembering, do it daily.
14. Warm is best. Skip cold water or hot water, and change the water every couple of days.
15. Get rid of those spent deadhead flowers right away.
16. Keep it cool: Resist putting a bouquet of flowers in direct sunlight.

How To Keep Your Flowers Looking Fresh???

  • Keep your vase filled with water! All flower and foliage stems should be submerged. Flowers stay fresher, longer when they can get a drink!
  • If your flowers came in a basket or other container with foam, add fresh water every day.
  • Immediately remove dead or wilting leaves and stems from fresh flower arrangements.
  • Watch your water. When it gets cloudy it’s time to change it out.

Changing The Water In Your Flower Arrangement

  • First remove any dead or dying flowers from the arrangement.
  • After carefully removing the good flowers, clean the vase thoroughly with soapy water to remove any bacteria that could cause the fresh flowers to deteriorate even quicker. Be sure to rinse thoroughly.
  • Replace the water and mix in the flower preservative provided by your florist, according to the instructions on the packet.
  • For best results, cut stems with a sharp knife at an angle about one to two inches from the bottom. This allows them to better absorb water. Do not use scissors to cut your flowers because they can crush the stems and prevent water absorption.
  • Place loose stems or wrapped bouquets of fresh flowers in your water mixture as soon as possible.

Marian Rivera is adding “florist”to her résumé

Marian Rivera appreciates the finer things in life and that includes her love for beautiful floral arrangements. Quickly scan her Instagram feed and you’ll see a lot of floral elements as well as Hermès Birkins (but that’s for another article altogether). She also knows how to turn passion into a business, hence, the birth of Flora Vida: Perennial Blooms by Marian.
The mother, actress, and now florist has been posting teasers on her social media. We know that’s possibly the best way to introduce a new brand. She even traveled to Japan with her family and invested in her craft by taking classes on floral design under Nicolai Bergmann. Just so you know, the Danish artist is one of the top florists in Japan, so taking a class taught by him is a big deal.
